HBO Max has announced new measures to prevent sharing passwords. It has been known for some time that the streaming service is working on ways to prevent sharing accounts. Netflix and Disney Plus previously made similar measures, now it is HBO Max’s turn. The streaming service has tested ways in recent months to check whether one account is used in multiple households.
HBO Max uses the same rules as Netflix and Disney Plus for sharing a password. It remains allowed to share an account, provided that it happens within one household. Do you want to give someone from another household access to your account? Then you have to pay extra, because HBO Max no longer allow. The streaming service will soon request a monthly amount in addition to the existing subscription costs for sharing an account.

In that case you may already receive a notification next month, in which you will be asked to change your password. In this way, HBO Max tries to put an end to sharing passwords between different households.
Do you want to continue to share your HBO Max password? In that case, HBO Max requires a monthly amount that comes on top of your standard subscription costs. The streaming service requires $ 7.99 a month in the United States for sharing an account. The price that will be in the Netherlands and Belgium is as yet unknown. Netflix asks 3.99 euros per month, with Disney Plus that is 5.99 euros per month. It is expected that HBO Max will use similar prices for an extra user.

HBO Max has analyzed accounts on the streaming service in recent months to determine who the main user is and at which address the subscription is used. This data will be used from next month to keep users out of a household from an account. It is not yet clear whether HBO Max will immediately request money after 1 September for sharing your password. Possibly the streaming service first gives a warning.
At the moment you pay 5.99 euros per month for the Basic subscription, the standard subscription costs 9.99 euros a month and the Premium subscription is closed for 13.99 euros per month. Sharing your password is probably no more expensive than the Basic subscription, which means that a price of 4.99 euros per month is plausible.
