Note: In these (holiday) countries ‘search my’ from Apple does not work

Are you going on holiday soon and are you taking an Apple device with you? Then pay attention, because in a number of (holiday) countries I don’t search for Apple.

The holiday period is coming again! Are you going on a trip or on vacation soon? In that case it is advisable to get an airtag so that you can always keep an eye on the location of your luggage. The precise location of the airtag is visible in the Mijn-app from Apple. In that application you see the location of all your Apple devices, so you never have to search for your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods or MacBook for long.

With an airtag you ensure that your luggage, wallet or bag are also visible in the search my app. That is useful when you go on vacation, because that way your things can never really lose. Can’t find the airtag? Then it is easy to look up the location in the search my app and play a sound. Unfortunately, that location is not visible everywhere, because in a number of (holiday) countries I don’t look optimally for Apple.

Countries with limitations

In different countries, I am not fully working properly. This has to do with security measures or legislation in a country, but the relationship with the United States also has consequences for the search mine network in a certain place. For example, I search for my limited way in holiday countries such as China and Cuba. You can use the service in these countries, but searching offline via the search mine network is limited.

In addition, you can only use my search in a number of countries, where Apple no longer sells products. These are countries such as Russia and Belarus, Apple has stopped selling all devices there. The search mine network depends on Apple devices, which means that the network has less coverage with few devices. The airtag will therefore be less quickly and less accurately visible in the search my app.

In countries such as Syria, Iran and North Korea, the search mine network is not available at all. Iran has blocked many services from Apple, through tensions with the United States. Apple services are not available in North Korea, because the country is isolated from the rest of the world. These are countries where you probably don’t go on holiday quickly, unlike China or Cuba.

In South Korea I was also not available from Apple. Only since iOS 18.4 can you use the search mine network in that country. So make sure that your iPhone (and other Apple devices) have been updated for the latest software version, so that the location is visible in the search my app. Keep in mind that your airtag shares the location by connecting with other Apple devices.

Are you going to a country where Apple is not very popular? Then the location will therefore be less accurate and often visible.
