Chrysler promises to bring the Chrysler Airflow Concept to CES in Las Vegas this year. The car looks more production-ready than on the 2020 sketches, although that is not entirely new.
In January 2020 Chrysler showed the first sketches of the ‘Airflow Vision’. The electric concept car should have debuted at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that year, but unfortunately that party, like almost all parties since, was cancelled. CES did take place in 2021, but purely digitally. We heard nothing about the Airflow there, but last summer a mysterious EV suddenly appeared at Chrysler. The Americans did not give that animal a name, but everything indicates that this is the Airflow that Chrysler wants to show in January, during CES 2022.
In a new press release, Stellantis indicates that it hopes to have a big presence at CES. The company promises that the Chrysler Airflow Concept will make its debut. The accompanying footage also clearly shows the car, which bears strong resemblance to the one we saw in July. It is true that the same animations show an old model Fiat 500, so the question is how accurate this image is. We also expect a production-ready or almost production-ready EV. The electric Chrysler is expected to sit on Stellaantis’ STLA Large platform, a base developed specifically for large EVs.
The name ‘Airflow’ does not come out of the blue, but harks back to the eponymous ‘streamline model’ with which Chrysler scared customers in the 1930s. There don’t seem to be any major external similarities with that primal Airflow. The new Airflow is a neat, somewhat futuristic-looking crossover, but it doesn’t seem to be really daring.
Chrysler is not the only Stellantis brand at CES. Jeep is also there, especially with many plug-in hybrid 4Xe models. Fiat shows its latest 500th and even Citroën, which is not present on the American market, is coming to CES. The brand shows, among other things, the small Ami, who has been driving around in the countries around us for a while. That car should eventually also drive around in the US.
