Number of Lightyear 0 units under the hammer
The sun has definitely not set for the Dutch Lightyear. The curator has officially approved the restart plan and so Lightyear can continue its adventure.
On January 26, part of Lightyear was declared bankrupt. The branch of Lightyear that was responsible for the production of the solar car Lightyear 0, which was called Atlas Technologies BV, went bankrupt. Curator Reinoud van Oeijen of Holla Legal & Tax, who took care of the remains of that company, has given the green light for a restart of Lightyear.
A new company is officially forming that will produce the Lightyear 2: Lightyear Technologies. The intellectual property of Lightyear – formerly owned by Atlas Technologies Holding BV – will be housed in this new company. Part of the employees, subsidiary Lightyear Layer and part of the inventory will also be transferred to this new company. Lightyear Technologies aims to market the Lightyear 2 within a few years. The Lightyear 2 should be a much more affordable model than the Lightyear Zero, of which a handful were built in Finland.
Have you always wanted a Lightyear 0? Please pay attention in the near future. Bankruptcy trustee Van Oeijen is going to sell part of the stocks of Atlas Technologies BV, which has been declared bankrupt. According to the curator, there are also a few copies of the Lightyear 0 among them. A viewing day will take place on Wednesday 19 April at the Automotive Campus in Helmond, the auction itself will take place online and will close on 24 April.
