Official: new SsangYong Rexton

SsangYong has presented the renewed Rexton. The sharpened SUV gets not only a revised look, but also a more powerful powertrain.

Techzle was able to show the first images of the renewed SsangYong Rexton in October. The current generation, presented in 2017, gets a different front with a much larger grille. That immense grille is joined by new LED headlights, which are more angular than before. From now on, the lighting must do without fringes at the corners. Lower on the nose we now find a sportier-looking front bumper.

Design

The adjustments at the back are less drastic. The rear lights have a different layout and now feature an LED signature that optically blends into the chrome strip between the units. The redesigned rear bumper has two elements that should pass as exhaust tailpipes. The interior has also been overhauled. SsangYong says it uses more beautiful materials and gives the SUV, among other things, a completely new steering wheel. Behind it we see a brand new 12.3-inch digital instrumentation. Furthermore, the Rexton gets new front seats, USB connections in the back and the backrest of the revised rear seat is now tiltable.

Diesel engine

Even more interesting: the 2.2 diesel engine gets 21 hp and 20 Nm and now sends 202 hp and 440 Nm to all four wheels via a new automatic transmission, a ‘shift by wire’ transmission without a physical connection between the automatic lever and the gearbox. . The seven-speed automatic transmission has been sent to the trash. The renewed Rexton is also the first SsangYong with electric power steering. Also new: Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, a comprehensive adaptive cruise control that SsangYong introduced in the new Korando. This enables the Rexton to behave somewhat autonomously on the motorway.

Information regarding the Dutch market will follow later.
