The Ford Transit Connect 1.5 EcoBlue gets a meager 75 hp from the factory. A little chip tuning works wonders.
We used to say that you better not get the technology of a car. “Because if it could be better, they would have done it in the factory.” Today, however, that kite is no longer valid. Factory adjustments are all about emissions and that often results in cars that “breathe through a straw”, as Ghisbert van Ginhoven of Beek Auto Racing puts it. Such as the Ford Transit Connect 1.5 EcoBlue with its meager 75 hp ex works. Shortly after purchase, Joey Halley invested 526.35 euros in chip tuning from the well-known tuner Rica, which resulted in a much freer breathing and faster bus.

“I have had this Ford for several months now. He works for our moving company, it’s pretty much the shopping cart. I thought it would be nice to let him chip tune; I wonder if he now does what Rica promises. The specification after the tuning is 155 hp and 335 Nm; it is a stage 5 tuning. So the turbo is still original. ” Mind you: that is a doubling of the capacity. Ghisbert tells the old story: “Nowadays the power of cars is well over 100 hp per liter. When you consider that this bus has 75 hp as standard, you know that there must be a lot more in it. That is not that complicated. ” It soon becomes apparent that the tuning has been very successful: no 155 hp, because this seemingly normal delivery van squeezes no less than 166 hp from its 1.5-liter diesel. Compared to the original 75 horsepower, this is the best progress. Joey still wants to know what caused the dip in acceleration he feels on the way. Ghisbert: “We call that an intermediate dip. Then he is adjusting something, but it will take a lot of effort to program that out. I would just settle for the way he is now. ”
