PDFs
PDFs are a commonly used form of digital documents. You have probably come across one. For example, some restaurants put their menu as a PDF on the website or organizations offer online information brochures in the form of a PDF. The advantage of PDF documents is that they always look as the creator intended. It doesn’t matter in which program or on which device the document opens, the text and images are always in the same place. A special program for viewing and editing PDFs is Adobe Reader. But Windows users can also get started with a PDF in the Edge browser.
Open from Edge
Opening a PDF file while surfing the Internet is easy. You may not even be aware that you are doing it. A PDF is linked to the website via a link. This link does not look any different from a link to another page on the website. Click on the link. The PDF will open in a new browser tab.
Open from File Explorer
Is the PDF already saved on the computer? Then open the file from File Explorer in Edge.
- Click on the yellow folder icon in the taskbar .
- The Explorer window opens. Navigate to the PDF.
- Right click on the PDF.
- click on Open with.
- click on Microsoft Edge.
- The ‘How would you like to open this file’ window may appear. In that case, choose Microsoft Edge. click on OK.
Read PDF in Edge
The PDF file is open in the Edge browser. At the top left is which page is visible and how many pages there are. Scroll down to view the rest of the document. Is the text too small to read properly? Click on the plus sign a few times to zoom in. To zoom out again, click on the minus sign.
Search in PDF
Edge offers the ability to search a PDF. This is especially useful for a file with many pages.
- Click the magnifying glass icon at the top left .
- Type the search term.
- Behind the typed term is the number of times the search term appears in the document. The search term found is highlighted in yellow in the text. Scroll through the text to see where the search term is.
- Click on the cross behind the search box to close the search function.
Edit PDF
Edge also has some editing capabilities for PDFs. Users can highlight or write parts of the text.
- Click the icon at the top Draw or To mark.
- Move the mouse cursor over the screen to draw or mark.
- Another color or thickness? Click the down arrow next to ‘Draw’ or ‘Mark’ and click on the desired option.
- Unsatisfied? Click the icon To clear (erase eraser) and move over the drawing or marker with the mouse cursor to delete it.
Save PDF
Save a PDF for later by saving it to your computer.
- Click the floppy disk icon at the top right .
- If the file was already saved on the computer, any adjustments will be saved immediately. If not, the Explorer window opens. Navigate to the desired location to save the PDF.
- Change the name if necessary.
- click on Save.
Print PDF
Of course, the PDF can also be printed.
- Click the icon of a printer in the top right .
- The print settings window opens. Adjust settings if necessary.
- click on Print.
