Open a link in another tab
The easiest way to open a link is to click/tap on it. The page to which the link points opens directly over the previous page. Do you want both the current and new web page to be open? Then open a link in a new tab.
Open link in new tab in Edge, Firefox and Chrome (PC)
To open a link in a new tab on a computer using the Edge, Firefox, or Chrome browser:
- Right click on a link.
- click on Open in new tab (edge), Open link in new tab (Firefox) or Open link in new tab (Chrome).
- An extra tab opens at the top. Click the tab to view the web page.

Open a link in a new tab on a Mac, using the Safari browser, like this:
- Right click on a link.
- click on Open link in new tab.
- An extra tab opens at the top. Click the tab to view the web page.
Open link in new tab in Chrome app
In the Chrome app for smartphones and tablets, open a link in a new tab like this:
- Tap the link and hold your finger on the screen until a menu appears.
- In the menu, tap Open in new tab.
- The current page remains open and the new web page opens in the background in another tab. Tap the square with a number in it to view the new page.
- An overview of the open tabs opens. Tap the desired tab to see it in full view.
Open link in new tab in Safari app
In the Safari app on the iPhone or iPad, open a link in a new tab like this:
- Tap the link and hold your finger on the screen until a menu appears.
- In the menu, tap Open in new tab.
- The new web page opens in a new tab and appears on the screen.
- Return to the web page you came to today? Then tap the icon with the two squares at the bottom right and then on the appropriate tab.
