OPPO Find X5 Pro official: striking design and focus on night photography

OPPO has announced a new generation of top devices. The Find X5, Find X5 Lite and Find X5 Pro are flagships in different price ranges. The Pro version has a ceramic design that is distinctive. The phone has a suggested retail price of 1299 euros.

OPPO Find X5 family

OPPO is presenting the latest additions from its Find X5 series at an online event today. The brand does that during a online launch event† The series consists of the Find X5 Pro, the regular Find X5 and the cheaper OPPO Find X5 Lite.

The brand says it is raising the bar again for smartphone image processing and premium design. It refers to its improved cameras and its focus on night photography and night shots. We’ll cover everything you need to know about the series, starting with the well-known specs below.

OPPO Find X5 Series Specifications

OPPO Find X5 Pro

Traditionally, night photography and filming in the dark has been a major challenge for the relatively small camera sensors. That’s why OPPO has developed a special Imaging NPU (Neural Processing Unit) called ‘MariSilicon X’. That NPU is made according to a 6 nm process and it should provide AI computing power that should counteract the noise in night images. OPPO also introduces 4K Ultra Night Video mode that helps you capture high-resolution night images.

The camera also uses a 50 MP main camera and a 50 MP wide-angle sensor. In both cases, it concerns the Sony IMX766 sensor with its sensor size of 1/56 inch. OPPO consciously chooses not to add a periscope camera or microscope camera to its top device. In a briefing to Androidworld, the brand said it wanted to make the most of the space in the housing for the sensors it believes matter most. The Find X5 Pro does have a simpler 13 Mp telephoto camera that is good for 2x optical zoom.

Five-axis image stabilization

A striking aspect of the camera setup is also the 5-axis optical image stabilization at the main lens. Normally, stabilization only happens via three axes, but OPPO’s new system should counteract vibrations even better during filming and shooting. OPPO also uses a quality Freeform lens that limits lens distortions. You know strange distortions in photos that occur with, among other things, backlighting. For its camera software, OPPO, like OnePlus, worked together with the camera manufacturer Hasselblad. In the Pro mode of the camera app you can find special Hasselblad filters, among other things.

Another striking aspect is the 32 selfie camera for which OPPO has an RGW camera that can capture more light because it uses white pixels. It makes the selfie camera more suitable for taking pictures in difficult lighting conditions. The selfie camera can also help you scroll through your phone with hand gestures through the MariSilicon X-NPU. It’s a feature we saw earlier with the LG G8 ThinQ, but perhaps OPPO will succeed in executing this concept better than LG did thanks to AI.

10-bit color and ceramic design

What you cannot ignore is the striking design of the FInd X5 Pro. The device is very recognizable and the design is based on spacecraft, according to OPPO. With the ceramic back, the phone is twice as scratch resistant as compared to regular glass, the brand says. The phone is also IP68 water resistant.

OPPO continues with the 6.7-inch screen of the Find X5 ¨Pro. The panel has a high QHD resolution and it supports 10-bit color allowing the panel to display a richer palette of color variations. The high-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is also the engine of this phone and the device and on the software level the phone runs on ColorOS 12.1 which is based on Android 12. The phone can expect three version updates for Android and four years of monthly security updates.

80W fast charger

OPPO is a brand traditionally known for its fast charging technology. The FInd X5 Pro has a larger 5,000 mAh battery compared to the Find X3 Pro. You can charge that battery thanks to the 80W SuperVOOC charger. In 12 minutes you get 50 percent, OPPO claims. The brand also says that the phone is more economical than its predecessors and that the battery wears out less quickly due to charging software that extends its life.

OPPO Find X5

A lot of features of the Find X5 Pro get a place in the regular variant. The OPPO Find X5 shares the same IMX766 telephoto camera system, which is powered by OPPO’s proprietary MariSilicon X NPU. In addition, the smartphone is equipped with a 6.5-inch 120Hz 10-bit color screen, 80W fast charging.

One point of difference is the phone housing which is made of glass. It is a glass with a matte finish so that fingerprints should hardly be visible. the device does lack the advanced image stabilization, the RGBW selfie camera and it is less able to charge wirelessly.

OPPO Find X5 Lite

With the OPPO Find X5 Lite, users can take strong portraits, or photos with a blurred background, according to OPPO. That’s thanks to the camera styling and AI-enhanced image processing features. In addition to the regular Portrait mode, the Lite version also has a special Bokeh Flare Portrait Video and more extras.
