Placing and cropping images in Word is not difficult … But if you want to superimpose two or more images for a playful effect, it is a bit less easy. In this article we explain how to do this.
Layout options
Before you get started with the overlay, make sure the image has the correct text wrapping. To do this, select the image and click on the icon Layout options† That’s the button that appears at the top right of the image. Use with option With text wrapping for example For text†
Leave the image selected, then you will see the tab in the ribbon Image format to appear. In the group Image Styles you will find some nice basic effects that you can apply to the images. In this example we will give the photo a white border.
Allow overlap
You will notice that sometimes strange things happen when you are in Become drag an image close to another image. For example, one image can move out of the way to make room for the other. To avoid these ‘rejection phenomena’, you must enable an option for each image you want to use with the overlap.
Select the image and click again Layout options† In this pop-up menu you now choose View more† This will bring you to the window Layout which consists of three tabs. Click the tab Position and place a check on the option Allow overlap†
Stacking Order
Once that’s done, drag the images over each other as you see fit. In general, you will still want to adjust the stacking order of the images. For example, if you want to see another image in the foreground, right-click it and select Bring to Front / To Foreground† You can also use an image in the same way Forward places. Then the picture will only move one position higher in the ranking.
You can also use images Backwards or To background move. This of course depends on what your intention is and the number of images you use. When you’re done, you can select the used images together by clicking the Ctrl key pressing and holding, after which you will be in the tab Layout for the option group chooses. This way you can move all photos at once.
