Overview of all devices that support iOS 27 and iPadOS 27

Can your iPhone or iPad install the biggest update of 2026? That’s the question. Apple has officially announced iOS 27 and iPadOS 27. We then know which devices will support the new software. Unfortunately, not all iPhone and iPad models that have iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 installed can update to the latest version.

On average, Apple devices receive major updates every 5 to 6 years. In recent years, older updates, such as iOS 12, have also been provided with security updates. For example, iOS 16 and iOS 12 were recently updated with bug fixes.

iOS 27 and iPadOS 27

The new software was unveiled during WWDC26 and can this fall be installed on all iPhone models that have an A13 chip or newer. As a result, this year no iPhone models lose weight compared to the current generation of software.

Support for the iPad is somewhat more limited, making several tablets no longer compatible compared to the previous software update. This means that the iPad Air 2019 (3rd generation), iPad mini 2019 (5th generation), iPad 2020 (8th generation), 11-inch iPad Pro 2018 (1st generation) and iPad Pro 12.9-inch 2018 (3rd generation) are no longer supported. Below is a complete overview.

Siri AI limited to latest generation

Some Siri AI and Apple Intelligence features require higher performance from your device, so they are only available on iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPad models with an M4 chip or newer, equipped with at least 12 GB of RAM. In addition, Siri AI for iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 will not be accessible in the EU for the time being due to a conflict with the DMA. It is currently unknown when the latest version of Siri will become available.

If you are looking for a new iPhone or iPad, it is advisable to choose a device that is still being updated. Consider a recent model or a model that was introduced about two years ago. Please note, some ‘old’ models may not support all new features.
