OxygenOS 13: These OnePlus phones get the update

OnePlus is working on a new version of its software shell based on Android 13. OxygenOS 13 should make the user interface a more cohesive whole, and we expect improvements to Zen Mode and the always-on display. These OnePlus phones get the update.

At the end of this summer, Google will announce the stable version of Android 13, which is apparent from the timeline that the company already shared from the first test version. In addition to the improvements from Google, each manufacturer will add a series of improvements to its software shell and that also applies to the OxygenOS 13 update from OnePlus.

OxygenOS 13 is the second major update that the brand is developing together with partner OPPO. If last year is any indication, the update is expected again in the third quarter of 2022 and it will appear first on the OnePlus 10 Pro. Recently, OnePlus surveyed its community about ways it can improve OxygenOS and there are then five points emerged:

• More customization options and cohesive design
• A more stable user experience
• Improvements to the always-on display (including the addition of a music player)
• More efficiency and a better experience at Zen Mode
• More consultation with the community

Your own design and faster updates?

OnePlus itself brings out quite contradictory messages about its software shell. First, work would be done on a new shell that had to work for both OnePlus and OPPO phones. Subsequently, that project was postponed and later CEO Pete Lau announced that OxygenOS still retains its individuality.

It could be a good thing if OnePlus manages to draw a clearer line in the design of the shell. Earlier, Androidworld noted that OxygenOS 12 is very similar to Realme and OPPO phone software, except for the few things OnePlus does differently. That used to be different. It is also questionable whether OnePlus will manage to update its phones faster, which was one of the promises when the partnership with OPPO was announced.

The OnePlus 10 Pro already works with the beta of Android 13, but it is important to clarify that this update comes with a bare version of Android 13.
