Parking permit costs have risen sharply in various municipalities

People who need a permit to park their car near their home often pay more for it than a few years ago.

In six of the ten municipalities with a parking permit area, costs have increased since 2021. The price of a parking permit varies greatly per municipality. This is evident from an analysis by the ANP, which found out for all municipalities whether residents currently need a parking permit. The figures have been compared with those of 2021, when the ANP also conducted this research.

This year, 147 of the 342 municipalities have at least one area for which a parking permit is required. Some municipalities have multiple permit zones with different prices. In those cases, the annual rate for the most expensive parking permit was taken into account. On average, the rate for the most expensive permit increased by almost 9 percent.

Car owners who live in the center of Heerenveen have to pay considerably more this year than in 2021. The Frisian municipality has more than doubled the costs, from €45 per year in 2021 to €100 this year. The municipality says that this is because there has been no increase in previous years. This year a “cost-covering increase in one go” was chosen. After Heerenveen, the rate for the most expensive parking permit rose the most in Nijkerk (almost 72 percent more), Lochem (55 percent), Rijswijk (more than 52 percent), The Hague (almost 45 percent) and Gouda (more than 44 percent).

The most expensive parking permit is for car owners who live within the Singel in the center of Amsterdam. This year they pay €630. In 2021 this was still €568, an increase of 11 percent. After that, city center residents of Utrecht (€615) and people in the inner cities of Groningen (€370) and Den Bosch (€368) lost the most money.
