The personal hotspot on your iPhone allows others to use your mobile data. But of course you don’t want strangers on your hotspot. That’s how you check!
Personal Hotspot on your iPhone
A useful feature on your iPhone is the personal hotspot. When you enable it, others can use your mobile data to surf the internet. You can find your personal hotspot in your iPhone’s settings under ‘Personal hotspot’. If you turn on the switch behind ‘Allow others to connect’, other phones can connect to your hotspot.
As soon as other phones use your mobile data, a symbol will appear in the corner of your screen. This way you know that someone is using your iPhone’s personal hotspot. To see who is on your mobile data, you cannot simply tap the green symbol on your screen. For that you also have to search in the settings of your iPhone. We explain how to do that!
This way you can see who is using your hotspot
To connect to your iPhone’s Personal Hotspot, your hotspot password must be entered on the other phone. Unfortunately, you do not see how many people are using your hotspot, so it is wise to check that when the green symbol appears. This way you avoid unexpectedly high costs with your mobile provider. You can see it like this:
- Open ‘Settings’ on your iPhone;
- Go to ‘Mobile network’;
- Tap on ‘Personal hotspot’ under ‘Cellular data’;
- Here you see an overview of all devices that have used your personal hotspot.
Is there a device in this list that you do not recognize? Then it is smart to change the password of your personal hotspot. It is also advisable to have your personal hotspot turned off by default on your iPhone. If you know that someone wants to use the internet via your mobile data, you can switch on the hotspot manually. This way you can be sure that no one is just using your hotspot.
