Dacia Sandero in second place
The Peugeot 208 was the most popular car in the Netherlands in 2022 and now the compact Peugeot can also call itself the most popular car in Europe. The Peugeot 208 thus knocks the Volkswagen Golf off the throne.
Most new copies of the Volkswagen Golf were registered in Europe in 2021, but in 2022 the Peugeot 208 can call itself the most popular car in Europe. This is evident from figures presented by Automotive News together with research agency Dataforce. In 2022, 199,302 new Peugeot 208s were registered, 4.8 percent more than in 2021. The 208 was also the winner in the Netherlands in 2022.
The Volkswagen Golf, which was still number one in 2021, finished in fourth place in 2022 with 170,689 deliveries. That was more than 13 percent less than in 2021. In second place we find the ever-popular Dacia Sandero. The Romanian was closely behind the Peugeot 208 with 191,499 units delivered (+1.3 percent). The third place is for the Volkswagen T-Roc, of which almost 175,000 copies will be registered in 2022.
In December, the most new copies of the Tesla Model Y were registered. It concerned 31,562 pieces. Another Tesla was in second place in December: the Model 3. The Tesla Model 3 is undoubtedly affected by the success of the Model Y. With 20,0258 units, 25 percent fewer copies were registered in December. If we look at the whole of 2022, we find the Model Y with 134,975 deliveries in twelfth position. The Model 3 is in 33rd place with 90,191 units delivered (-35.3 percent).
