‘Search for more aerodynamic silhouettes’

Peugeot expects traditional SUVs to leave the field

If you want an (electric) car that is as efficient as possible, then it is better not to turn it into an SUV. Peugeot understands that too. That is why the French brand expects the traditional SUV to disappear, but that does not mean that it is over with high models.

With aerodynamic highlights such as the Mercedes-Benz EQE and Hyundai Ioniq 6, we see that the sedan(s) as EV are starting a kind of comeback. After all, that body shape seemed almost doomed until recently. Combining an electric powertrain with an slippery sedan body, more brands like that. Peugeot also shows something similar with the Inception Concept, but Peugeot is still not convinced that we can really talk about the return of the sedan.

Peugeot CEO Linda Jackson explains, after inquiry from AutoWeek about this, expresses that she is not sure whether we will see the ‘traditional saloon’ again at Peugeot. In that regard, the days of the 508 as we know it today may be numbered. “What is true is that the silhouettes change, because they are dictated more by aerodynamics.” She therefore thinks that SUVs will also change further, more towards a kind of long-legged sedan. “I don’t think anyone is saying SUVs are going to disappear, but we’re all looking at ways to make them more aerodynamic.” Jackson quotes the 408: “It’s a mix between a sedan and an SUV.” You can count on more high Peugeots that continue this line, possibly a bit more streamlined and lower.
