Spotify lets you continue playing music from your Mac directly on your iPhone, and vice versa. With Apple Music, this is not possible unless you download this app.
PlayOff: Continue playing Apple Music on your iPhone
Thanks to the Handoff function, you can start with an email on your Mac, view a page in Safari or schedule an appointment in your Calendar and continue directly on your iPhone. Unfortunately, this doesn’t work with Apple Music, but a clever app maker has found a solution.
With PlayOff you can listen to a song, leave your workplace and not miss a beat when you switch to your phone. The app is very simple and does exactly what you expect. It remembers how far you were in the song and continues playing on your smartphone. That is how it works:
- Install PlayOff on your Mac and download the app on your iPhone;
- Pair both devices by following the on-screen prompts;
- You can start listening.
Unfortunately, the app does not yet work with albums and playlists. So you can only continue playing the current song on your iPhone, but not multiple tracks. Also, the distance between your Mac and phone should not be too long, because PlayOff uses a bluetooth connection.
This will be improved soon
The maker of the app has announced that it will support playlists in the future. The iPad will also be added in future updates and PlayOff will take AirPods into account. Now you still have to manually pair the wireless earbuds to the app.
PlayOff for Mac is free to download, while the iPhone version costs 2.29 euros. The idea of PlayOff is really cool, but the risk is that Apple will soon copy the function into Music itself. However, if you listen to a lot of music and can spare the price of a cup of coffee, you will undoubtedly enjoy PlayOff.
