Please note: Amazon is adjusting return rules (and that’s bad news)

Bad news if you regularly order packages from Amazon, because the company will soon adjust its return rules. We’ll tell you what’s changing!

New Amazon return rules

Be careful if you want to return a package to Amazon, because the company will soon have new return rules. Where you previously had 30 days to return your items, this has been shortened to only 14 days. This means that you only have two weeks to hand in your package, instead of one month. So you have to be quick, because you now have much less time.

Amazon is introducing the new return rules on March 25, 2024. From that date you have 14 days to return a package. The new regulations apply throughout Europe, it is still unclear whether Amazon will make the same adjustments in the United States. In any case, the new return policy applies in the Netherlands and Belgium, but not for all products. Amazon does not apply the shorter return period everywhere.

Shorter return period for these products

For certain categories, Amazon will maintain the current return rules, where you have 30 days to return something. Do you order computers, electronics, office supplies, cameras, video games or other technological items? Then you must return the package within 14 days. So pay attention if you order an iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch from the company, because those products are probably covered by the new scheme.

With the new return rules, Amazon is trying to prevent customers from returning used products. According to the company, there have been plenty of situations where an item is only ordered for a specific occasion. Consider a camera that is specially ordered for a two-week holiday. The device will be returned after the holidays, but that will no longer be possible.

Transition period of one month

This is a known problem at online stores, which Amazon is trying to put an end to with the new return rules. From March 25, you only have two weeks left to return mainly technological items. Do you want to return a package after 14 days after that date? This is possible until April 25, but you must contact customer service before then.

Amazon is introducing a transition period of one month before the new return rules apply. This way, customers who are not aware of the new policy still have the opportunity to return a package. After April 25 the transition period is over, so you really only have 14 days left. So be careful, because after two weeks Amazon will no longer accept your return.
