After two years, the time has finally come: trading in Pokémon GO is now possible. iPhoned shows how the new Trading function works.
Pay attention: Niantic is gradually rolling out the Pokémon GO trading feature and friends list. For example, it is currently only possible for trainers of level 30 or higher to create a friends list. This limit will gradually decrease.
Pokémon GO Trading: this is how it works on your iPhone
To exchange pocket monsters, you must first make contact with other players. All of this works through Pokémon GO’s new Friends List, where you can add people with special Trainer Codes. Each player has a unique six-digit code, which you share with your friends to add each other. This works as follows.
- Open Pokémon GO;
- Tap your trainer’s avatar in the lower left corner of the screen;
- Tap ‘Friends’ next to ‘Me’ at the top of the screen;
- Select ‘Add Friend’ and enter the six-digit code;
- Your friend will now appear in your friends list.
New possibilities thanks to Pokémon GO friends
If you have added a friend, they will appear in your friends list. This will enable a number of new things that weren’t previously in Pokémon GO. For now, the maximum of the friends list is 200.
View statistics: for example, you can see trainers’ stats here and see their most recently captured Pokémon. Friends can also send gifts to each other. These items can be earned at Pokéstops or gyms and can only be used for sharing.
Give exclusive eggs: In addition to standard items, you can also share exclusive yellow Pokémon eggs. After seven kilometers, these eggs will hatch and you will receive an exclusive Alolan version of a classic Pokémon. Obtaining these eggs is therefore an important reason for real collectors to fill a friends list.
Raise your friendship level: The more you interact with friends, the more hearts you’ll see appearing below their avatar. You can level up by donating items, doing gyms or raids together, and trading Pokémon. There are four levels in total: Good Friend, Great Friend, Ultra Friend and Best Friend. Each level comes with bonuses, giving you a higher attack bonus, unique trading options and more.
Trading Pokémon GO: this is how it works
After two years, it is now finally possible to trade Pokémon in Pokémon GO. However, the function has been considerably curtailed so that it cannot be abused. Through these rules, Niantic wants to ensure that only fair exchanges are made.
- You can only trade Pokémon with friends;
- The exchange function only works locally. So you will have to find each other and get close to each other to use the function;
- Both players must be at least level 10.
If you meet the above rules, you can exchange any Pokémon. However, each trade costs a little bit of Stardust, the amount of which depends on your friend level. You also need to be at least Great Friends with someone to trade Legendary Pokémon, Shiny Pokémon, and Pokémon that aren’t already in your Pokédex.
