Porsche Design celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and Porsche is reflecting on that with a limited edition 911 Targa 4 GTS. A 911 Targa from the ‘birth year’ of Porsche Design is also specially decked out for the occasion.

In 1972 Ferdinand Porsche laid the foundations for Porsche Design, the design studio where they have been designing the most diverse accessories ever since. It all started in 1972 with the Chronograph I, a watch designed by Ferdinand Porsche himself. This watch is the inspiration for a limited edition of the Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS, which is aptly named ‘Edition 50 Years Porsche Design’, which is limited to 750 pieces.

To start with, the 911 Targa comes in black, just like the aforementioned watch. In addition, the fine-mesh checkered seat covers are a nod to models from the time when Porsche Design was founded. Of course, there’s also a logo that reminds you that you’re dealing with a special edition, right on the back of the 911 Targa. Complete with Ferdinand Porsche’s signature on it. The ‘Porsche Design’ in the striping on the sides of the car is also not to be missed. A more concrete nod to the watch can be found in the chronograph on the dashboard, which, just like on the Chronograph I, has a red second hand. Those who prefer to have such a timepiece with them outside the car can wear a brand new edition of the Chronograph I on their wrist.

As mentioned (and can be seen in the photos), Porsche has also brought in a 911 Targa from 1972 for the occasion. A Targa S 2.4 to be exact. That car has been given the same black color, the Porsche Design striping and, in addition, Porsche has tackled the Targa roll bar. It has been ‘lasered into a platinum satin finish’. According to Porsche, a modern interpretation of the brushed stainless steel of the original. Here too you will find the special placard on the hood that indicates that this is a car in honor of 50 years of Porsche Design.

You don’t just get the classic 911 Targa in your possession, but you can get your hands on the modern 911 Targa 4 GTS Edition 50 Years Porsche Design – a mouth full. That is, if you can afford it. It should cost no less than €241,900.
