Up to almost 100 kilometers electrically
The brand new Porsche Panamera is available with not one or two, nor three, but four plug-in hybrid powertrains. That’s what it highlights now. These are the Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid and 4S E-Hybrid.
The previous generation Porsche Panamera was available as a 4 E-Hybrid, as a 4S E-Hybrid and as a Turbo S E-Hybrid. With three plug-in hybrid powertrains, the Panamera is no stranger to the plug-in concept. The brand new Porsche Panamera presented this year is not available with three, but with four plug-in hybrid powertrains. Porsche now highlights the mildest two: the versions without the Turbo addition to the name. These are the Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid and 4S E-Hybrid.
The Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid and 4S E-Hybrid are technically not the same as the versions of the previous model of the same name. For example, the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid has a system power of 470 hp and 650 Nm, with the 2.9 biturbo V6 producing 304 hp. Previously, the 4 E-Hybrid had a 330 hp V6 and a system power of 462 hp and 700 Nm. The electric motor in the new Panamera, with 190 hp and 450 Nm, is stronger than the one in the previous Panamera (136 hp and 400 Nm). The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid zooms to a speed of 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds. Its top speed: 280 km/h. Perhaps more interesting is the electric range. Thanks to the new and larger battery pack (25.9 kWh instead of 14 kWh), this has been increased to 96 kilometers.
For more plug-in power, Porsche has the Panamera 4S E-Hybrid on offer. It also has a 2.9 V6 with two turbos, but a powerful 353 hp one. Together with the electrical part of the drivetrain, this gives the 4S E-Hybrid a system power of 544 hp and 750 Nm. This makes this more powerful plug-in hybrid reach 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds. Its top speed: 290 km/h. This more powerful plug-in hybrid also has the new 25.9 kWh battery and can travel approximately 96 kilometers on electric power alone.
The updated plug-in Panameras not only have a greater electric range, but can also charge faster thanks to the 11 kW on-board charger. Porsche promises that the throttle response is more direct, that the electric motor is lighter and that the E-motor can recover up to 88 kW. More new: there are four new driving modes and the Sport and Sport Plus modes have been revised. The pair always start in electric mode.
The prices of the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid and 4S E-Hybrid will follow soon. The previously presented Turbo E-Hybrid is considerably more expensive with its starting price of €200,900. The new Panamera is also available as a basic version simply called Panamera (€158,700) and as Panamera 4 (€168,900). Both have a 353 hp and 500 Nm strong 2.9 V6 without a hybrid plug-in hybrid addition. From now on, every Panamera is a liftback, as the Sport Turismo will no longer return.
