Portrait or landscape document in Word

Not enough space in width on a page in Word? Then make the document landscape, so that there is more space to work with.

The page orientation of a new Word document is set to ‘portrait’ by default. This means that the long side of the page is vertical. Sometimes it is more convenient to rotate the page so that the long side is horizontal (also known as landscape).

Change the orientation like this (from Word 2013):

    • Open a new Word document.
    • In the Ribbon, click on the tab Page layout or Layout.
    • click on Orientation.
    • click on standing or landscape. You can always change the position later.
