Up to 80 kilometers electrically with the new Plug-in Hybrid
With the Tonale, Alfa Romeo introduced its first new model in about seven years at the beginning of this year. Towards the end of the year, Alfa Romeo considers the time ripe for the introduction of the last and most powerful Tonale. This is the 280 hp Alfa Romeo Tonale Plug-in Hybrid Q4.
For the time being, the Alfa Romeo Tonale is only listed as a 130 hp and 160 hp hybrid on the Dutch price list, but the competitor of the BMW X1 and Volvo XC40 was also announced as a plug-in hybrid. Alfa Romeo believes the time is right to bring it back to the spotlight and introduces it as the sporty Tonale Plug-in Hybrid Q4.
The Alfa Romeo Tonale Plug-in Hybrid Q4 has a 1.3-liter four-cylinder 180 hp turbocharged engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. This 1.3 works together with a 122 hp and 250 Nm strong electric motor on the rear axle that brings the system power to 280 hp. The plug-in Tonale has a 15.5 kWh battery pack from which the sporty PHEV squeezes more than 80 electric kilometers according to the Italians. Full charging is possible with a maximum of 7.4 kW. The designation ‘Q4’ is behind the model name for a reason. The Alfa Romeo Tonale Plug-in Hybrid Q4 has four-wheel drive because the electric motor releases the power to the rear wheels.

The Alfa Romeo Tonale Plug-in Hybrid Q4 can reach a speed of up to 135 km/h on electric power alone. If you keep pedaling, you can accelerate until the top speed of 206 km/h is reached. The Tonale plug-in sprints from standstill to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds. Naturally, the sporty top model can be set to various driving modes. You can recognize it from the outside by its two exhaust pipes and the extra tailgate behind which the loading opening is hidden.
Alfa Romeo will soon offer the Tonale Plug-in Hybrid Q4 in numerous flavors, including introversion Edizione Speciale, Super, Sprint, Ti and Veloce. You can recognize the Edizione Speciale by its titanium-colored paint, 20-inch wheels, red brake calipers and special badges. That’s the version that comes first. It costs €50,900 in the Netherlands. The prices of the Tonale Plug-in in Super, Sprint, TI and Veloce versions will follow later.
