Tricky choice
Ford fired a new sporty ST version at the beginning of March at the Puma. In addition to a 200 hp strong version with a manual gearbox, the compact crossover was also available as a mild hybrid with a 170 hp powertrain and an automatic transmission with a double clutch. AutoWeek can be the first to report the price of that new Ford Puma ST Powershift before Ford announces it. And that price, which is quite special!
In a nutshell: what exactly is the Ford Puma ST Powershift? The Ford Puma ST Powershift is a new sporty variant of the Ford Puma that does not have a 200 hp 1.5 and a manual six-speed gearbox like the existing Puma ST-X, but has a milder mild-hybrid powertrain with an automatic transmission. Under the hood is a 170 hp and 248 Nm strong mild-hybrid 1.0 that sends its power to the feed wheels via a Powershift automatic transmission with seven gears and a double clutch. The 200 hp ST with manual gearbox is 0.7 seconds faster on the 0-100 sprint. The Puma ST Powershift also benefits from the same extras as the well-known ST version, which means: a sporty appearance with sporty spoilers and large light metal, a sports suspension and the same stiffer base.
The 200 hp Ford Puma ST-X with manual gearbox is in the order books for €46,215 and guess what? The Puma ST Powershift seems to cost almost the same. The Ford Puma ST-X Ecoboost Hybrid – as the model is called in full – is even €5 more in the order books. So you get a less fast Puma ST-X in return, but one that has more complex technology on board and with an average consumption of 6.3 l/100 km uses its fuel more economically than the 200 hp Puma ST -X with 1.5 (6.8 l/100 km).
The longer known Puma ST-X with 200 hp 1.5 will not be replaced, but will simply remain on for those who prefer to poke through the resistance themselves and for whom those faster sprint times are really relevant. Delivery of the Ford Puma ST Powershift will start at the end of the second quarter.
