The BMW Vision M Next will not lead to a production version, it seems. BMW reportedly put a line on the car. What we miss as a result remains a bit difficult to say.
BMW received a lot of praise when it unveiled the Vision M Next last year; a futuristic concept car that is also peppered with retro influences. The references to the M1 were not to be missed. At the same time, there was also a lot of i8 to discover and it seemed that this would indeed be the new i8. At the end of last year, however, BMW M CEO fueled the rumors that it could also become a standalone M model. That should eventually appear and the M Next would clearly fit in that street.
Whatever the idea behind the M Next, it looks like we’re not going to see it on the road. BMW Blog and Manager Magazin report based on sources within BMW that the M Next has been put in the corner. BMW would have already doubted because it sees too little market for a (partly) electric supercar and it is said that the corona crisis subsequently turned the doubt into a decision. Such interesting but expensive and not very profitable projects do not fit the picture right now. We should probably fear more of these disappointments from other brands in the near future.
