Qoros shows new SUV

The troubled Qoros has presented a new SUV: the 7. Although the car is based on the smaller 5, it is higher in the manufacturer’s pecking order.

Qoros was clearly put forward in 2013 as a Chinese brand that was going to conquer Europe. The company has been a Sino-German joint venture since 2011, but now owns Chinese Chery and US Quantum LLC. Due to disappointing sales, Qoros decided to first turn its attention to the Chinese market. It is therefore the Chinese car market where Qoros will soon launch a new SUV: the 7.

The Qoros model range in China currently consists of the 3, the Young and the 5. The 3 is a C-segmenter with a hatchback, a sedan and raised versions of both body styles available. Where the 3 is still a self-developed model, the Young is in fact nothing more than a Tiggo 7 from parent company Chery with other logos. The 5 (photo 3) presented in 2015 is an own model, a 4.59 meter long SUV that remarkably serves as the basis for the 7 that Qoros has now presented.

The windows of this brand new 7 clearly show that the new SUV shares its base with the aforementioned Qoros 5. However, the Qoros 7 also has its own body. Not only are the nose and butt different, the front and rear screens differ from those of the 5. The different bumper work and a wheelbase extended by one centimeter to 2.72 meters make the Qoros 7 about 8 centimeters longer than the Qoros 5. The engine list will include a 204 hp and 280 hp strong blown 1.6. Higher on the power ladder will be a 230 hp and 300 Nm powerful 1.8. The 7 will become available in the Chinese market in the second half of this year.
