Quadratec goes retro with Jeep ‘YJL’

We don’t make a habit of hoisting one-offs on stage for promotional purposes. Today, however, we are making an exception for the creation of the American Quadratec, because behind this Jeep Wrangler lies a special story.

Quadratec is a company dedicated to creating and trading Jeep accessories. The company is probably experiencing golden times with this, because the off-road culture is currently at full strength in the US.

Quadratec, however, already existed well before the current off-road hype, for thirty years to be precise. To celebrate that joyful event, the company is of course coming up with a show car, which has everything to do with founder and owner Ted Wentz. Quadratec would never have been founded if Wentz had not fallen so in love with his 1989 Jeep Wranger in 1990 that he decided to turn to Jeep professionally as well.

The original

The 30th anniversary of the company can therefore only be celebrated with a tribute to that conscious Wrangler. This is a model of the YJ generation, the only Jeep from this model series with square headlights. However, as a basis for the party Jeep, no YJ was used, but a fresh Wrangler from model year 2020, model series JL. It was then painted in the color of the original and was given all kinds of external features of the YJ.

The rectangular headlights are of course present on the ‘YJL’, but the bumpers are also an emphatic reference to the past. At the rear, the unique Jeep, which is of course completely packed with Quadratec accessories, is fitted with the legendary rear lights of the YJ, albeit in LED form. They even took the trouble to move the fuel cap from the rear screen to a spot under the left rear light, where it now hides behind the license plate, just like with the YJ.
