RDW lets the reins celebrate again

With the strictest corona measures (almost) behind us, the RDW also looks ahead again and relaxes the rules. All stations should be open again in two weeks, but it is not yet the same with the old one.

Like many other companies, the RDW halted almost all activities after the outbreak of the corona virus. Car companies were no longer able to knock on inspection stations for an inspection. Instead, the inspection went completely online with extra photos and requested information. The temporary import procedure is not really being fundamentally changed yet. RDW-recognized companies that want to import a passenger car, light commercial vehicle (<3,500 kg) or two or three-wheelers will continue to do so online. In these cases there is a chance that a test check will follow at a later time. However, it will become easier for certified companies to submit an application. A digital Accelerated Individual Application (VIA) can be requested for vehicles. This should work a lot faster than the web forms used so far.

Nothing will change for the time being. They are still unable to knock on the door of the RDW with a self-imported car. For the time being, assistance from an RDW approval holder still needs to be called in for this. He can follow the online import procedure for them. What changes then? The RDW is opening its doors again for more crucial services. Note: this only happens by appointment. From this week, for example, buses or agricultural vehicles can be inspected again and taxis or means of transport for live animals are again welcome for an inspection. You can find the whole new service overview here.

More inspection stations will open again on Monday 11 May. The RDW will then put the stations back into operation in Roosendaal, Waddinxveen, Nieuwegein and Almelo. From the following week, the employees in the three remaining closed stations will also get back to work. Although that is good news, there will be a longer waiting period than usual for the time being. The RDW cannot yet estimate how quickly it has stabilized again.
