The iPhone has stereo speakers and it is even possible to play videos and music in spatial audio. For example, not only the speakers at the bottom of the device are used to produce sound, the speaker at the top is also used.
Since the iPhone Xs and Xr, Apple smartphones have been able to record videos with stereo sound. The iPhone 16 (Plus), iPhone 16 Pro (Max) and new ones can even shoot videos with spatial audio. Four microphones are used in the device for this purpose.
Record audio to iPhone videos
When using the iPhone, since the iPhone 7 you have the choice between recording videos in mono or stereo. For the iPhone 16 (Pro) or newer, this has been expanded to spatial audio. You can also limit the reduction of wind noise. We explain how to change and use these settings.

From now on, when you make a video with your iPhone, it will record the sound in mono, stereo or spatial (depending on your choice) using the different microphones present in the device.
This is an enrichment for many hobby video makers and vloggers. For example, if you film a car driving from right to left, you will also hear this in the video. This way you can make even more beautiful and, above all, more dramatic videos.
Reduce wind noise
Since the iPhone 16 (Pro) series, it has been possible to automatically reduce wind noise in a video. This means that wind blowing into the microphone is limited as much as possible. The function is activated automatically in most cases and can be checked via Settings ▸ Camera ▸ Wind noise reduction.
Only for videos
Do you regularly record voice memos? Then you can also record this in stereo. You do this via Settings ▸ Apps ▸ Dictaphone ▸ stereo recording. Spatial audio and wind noise filtering is only for videos.
