Shooting at Volkswagen ID1

Renault is working on a relatively cheap electric car that will be positioned one step below the upcoming electric ‘R5’. With this newcomer, the French are aiming their arrows at Volkswagen’s future ‘ID1’.
Next year, Renault will launch an electric and R5-influenced compact electric car on the market. That electric retro rascal must be less expensive than the Renault Zoe and will be a direct competitor of the Volkswagen ID2. Volkswagen is working on an electric model that will come under the ID2 and Renault is also interested in an electric car in that smaller segment. That reports Autocar.
None other than Luca de Meo – CEO of Groupe Renault – is said to have announced during an event that Renault is coming up with a relatively cheap electric car that will have a place in the range below the ‘R5’. With this cheaper electric car, the brand wants to further ‘integrate’ EVs in Europe, according to De Meo. According to the CEO, Japanese Kei cars are a source of inspiration for the new electric French little one. “I would like to translate the idea of the Japanese Kei cars to Europe,” says Autocar from De Meo. We do not expect Renault to come up with a ‘narrow high’ small EV, but rather with a small, practical and affordable model.
