The facelift that the first Renault Twingo received in 1998 was fortunately quite subtle. Still, a late Twingo I has a completely different look due to a series of small changes.
The first Renault Twingo appeared in 1993 and then shook up the small car segment. With its three-door, MPV-like coach, endearing appearance and round shapes, the car was so modern and so refreshingly different, that it quickly grew into a kind of automotive legend. You could therefore just name the Twingo in the list that also includes the Renault 4, the Mini, the Citroën 2CV and the Fiat 500, although the much more recent Twingo is of course less important when it comes to getting (car) mobile. of large population groups.
Japan
Instead, the Twingo derives its early classic status entirely from its own smart layout and fresh look. The car looks like a product of the late nineties, while the first Twingo really already appeared in 1993. In Japan, the small Renault did ring a bell, but in Europe we had never seen anything like it.
Circumference the same
The fact that the Twingo looked so modern also meant that it had a good shelf life. Renault did not feel the need to refresh the model until 1998, five years after its introduction. Although, solid … the outline of the headlights, rear lights and bumpers actually changed nothing. Instead, Renault opted for a series of smaller modifications. The initially loose and orange-colored turn signals were forged into one with the now bright headlight units. At the same time, the bumpers were smoothed and partly painted on the more luxurious versions. The rear lights got a different layout and a completely red cover. The interior was also addressed, including a more modern airbag steering wheel.

In 2000, a minor refurbishment followed, including the Renault emblem on the tailgate for the first time. Furthermore, the appearance remained intact, making it all the more handsome that the Twingo managed to survive in its original form until 2004. Did we mention this car was ahead of its time?
