Renault: until 2025 with 27 new models

Under the leadership of Carlos Ghosn, Group Renault announced that it would bring no less than 24 new models to the market by 2025. Luca de Meo is now on the Renault throne and guess what? You can expect even more new models in the coming years. 27 pieces even.

In 2021, Groupe Renault, led by then CEO Carlos Ghosn, opened a can of news from which it drew one promise after another. Until 2025, Renault would launch no less than 25 new models. Ghosn left the Renault podium with no silent drum and Luca de Meo has been holding sway for a while now. What seems? De Meo has pretty much thrown Ghosn’s entire plan into the trash with a fluid flick of the wrist.

De Meo says to Automotive News that he completely changed Carlos Ghosn’s entire plan in six weeks. According to the CEO, Renault had twenty new models ready when De Meo took office, the majority of which were small cars for ‘very exotic markets’. So many compact models for growth markets. “Renault mainly aimed to increase its market share internationally. It was all about selling larger numbers,” explains De Meo. “The easiest way to do that is to introduce lots of small models in big markets like India and China.”

The current Renault CEO says he has shifted the focus from small models with small profit margins to higher positioned models. Think of the Austral, Espace and the just unveiled Rafale. Larger profit margins are achieved on such models. Groupe Renault will introduce 27 new models up to and including 2025, according to De Meo. Mind you, those newcomers do not all have a Renault badge on their nose. So there are also cars among others from Renault, Alpine and Dacia.
