‘Renault will launch an affordable electric car’

Dacia has the Spring, Citroën the new ë-C3 and Renault is also launching a compact electric car that should be affordable. This is evident from reporting from Automotive News.

The generally well-informed Automotive News reports, based on three anonymous sources, that Renault will this week pull the curtain on an electric city car that should above all be affordable. The compact EV should make its debut on Wednesday, November 15 during the Ampere Capital Market Day.

Ampere is a division of Renault Group fully dedicated to the development and production of – according to Renault – “[…] safe and sustainable vehicles.” Does that mean that the upcoming electric car will be carried under the Ampere flag? No. The compact electric Renault that is planned for 2026 will simply receive Renault badges, just like all other cars that Ampere will develop.

We do not yet know exactly how the car will be positioned. We do dare to say with a probability bordering on certainty that the car will be positioned one step below the electric Renault 5. The Renault 5, which will be unveiled in the first half of next year, should in turn be cheaper than the Renault Zoe that it is pushing out of automotive existence. Renault has already shown a Twizy-like city EV in the form of the EZ-1 in 2021, which was presented by Renault’s ‘mobility branch’ Mobilize. A year later, a further developed version of the EZ-1 was presented: the Duo.
