Renault’s EV plans supplant a number of other models from its global offering. That will start in March with the Talisman, but will then also apply to the Scénic and eventually the Espace.

In 2020 we also announced that the end of the Talisman, Scénic and Espace was in sight. In that context, the models lasted a long time, but now we know how long the party will last. The Talisman goes first on the chopping block. Production of this model will stop as early as March 2022, next month. We should not expect a direct successor, because the traditional D-segment is rapidly dying out. Recently, the curtain fell for the Volkswagen Passat sedan and the Ford Mondeo is also on its last legs. In the Netherlands, the Talisman has already disappeared from the Renault site.

The same goes of course for the Scénic and the Espace. As a large crossover/MPV, the Espace is actually a segment in itself, while the Scénic, despite its large wheels, is in fact one of the very last midi MPVs. The production line of the ‘short’, five-seat Scénic will be discontinued in July. The longer Grand Scénic and the Espace are allowed to continue for a while and will simply experience the turn of the year to 2023. Nevertheless, Renault has already indicated that these cars will also eventually clear the field, but there is no concrete moment yet.

In addition to declining demand, Renault’s electrification strategy is also a direct cause of the disappearance of the Talisman, Scénic and Espace. The factory she is building, in Douai, France, has already started production of the all-electric Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric. The electric Renault 5 will also be built here from 2024, on the same platform. The two EVs will eventually be joined by two more copies, including an SUV. So some things will disappear, but we also get something in return.
