Last year, the Renault Zoe was the second-hand electric car for which SEPP subsidy was most often applied for. This and more is evident from figures released by the Bovag Trade Association.
Of the €32.4 million that was filled in the SEPP subsidy pot for electric used cars, more than €28 million was actually paid out. Of that €28 million, no less than 12 percent went to the purchase or private lease of a second-hand Renault Zoe. This made the Renault Zoe the electric used car for which SEPP subsidy was most often applied for. Purchase subsidy was applied for and paid out in 2023 for the purchase of 1,737 used Renault Zoe.
The Nissan Leaf is in second place. 8.4 percent of the €28 million paid out went to someone who chose a second-hand Nissan Leaf. The Volkswagen e-Golf is in third place (7.6 percent). The Zoe, Leaf and e-Golf came onto the market many years earlier than the rest of the models in the Top 10. In places four to six we successively encounter the Hyundai Kona Electric, the Volkswagen ID3 and the Peugeot e-208. Positions seven to ten are for the Fiat 500e, the Kia Niro Electric, the Mini Cooper SE and the Peugeot e-2008. With the exception of the Mini and the Fiat, they are all mainly practical models.
Han ten Broeke, general chairman of BVOVAG: “These figures show that the subsidy measure does what it is supposed to do: encouraging affordable and practical electric cars that are within the reach of the average consumer. The list is dominated by electric family cars on the one hand, and compact city cars on the other: cars for average households.”
This year, €29.4 million in SEPP subsidy is available to make the purchase or private lease of a used electric car more attractive.
