Ready to accommodate the departure of the Fiesta
In 2019, the model name Puma returned to Ford. The name that was once used for a small coupe based on Fiesta has now been on the back of a compact crossover with Fiesta genes for almost four years. That small, long-legged car that has had to pull the cart for Ford since its disappearance in the compact segment will soon be facelifted and on these spy plates the new Puma can be seen in test suit.
You can find what you want in a Ford Puma that is a compact crossover and no longer a three-door gadget, but it is certain that Ford is doing quite good business with it. In the Netherlands too. While the original Ford Puma was good for 1,600 registrations in our country from 1998 to 2002, the current generation Puma already achieved 2,235 registered copies in its first Dutch sales year. In the almost four years that the Puma has been on the market in the Netherlands, more than 9,000 units have already been registered. Last year, no fewer than 3,044 of them found a Dutch owner. As well as the Fiesta did that year (3,213 units), the Puma did not. But the difference is no longer large. Now that the Fiesta is no longer being built, the role for the Puma is only increasing. It is therefore not surprising that Ford likes to keep the model up to date with a facelift.
The secondary session that the Puma undergoes will not be an intense one. The crossover apparently gets new bumper work at both the front and rear and the headlights seem to get a new light signature. Judging by the mesh in the grille, this packed test sample is designed as an ST-Line. Ford seems to compensate for the mildness of the facelift by bringing a fully electric powertrain to the Puma with the facelift – or shortly afterwards. We also expect minor optical improvements in the interior, including in the area of infotainment.
Electric Puma may have the same electric powertrain as the E-Transit Courier and E-Tourneo Courier. This means that a 136 hp electric motor may drive the front wheels. We expect Ford to launch the updated Puma in the first half of 2024.
