AutoWeek can be the first to tell you what the updated Mercedes-Benz G-class will cost. What seems? It is considerably less expensive than before. The price difference amounts to over €40,000.

Mercedes-Benz finally pulled the curtain on the updated G-class. The Gelandewagen was addressed both optically and technically during his trimming session. The Mercedes-Benz G-class was refreshed on the outside and received a new infotainment system, among other things. More interesting, however, were the technical changes that Mercedes-Benz implemented. These ensure that the equally angular and now iconic off-roader becomes up to €40,000 cheaper in the Netherlands than before.

The Mercedes-Benz G-class is experiencing electrified powertrains for the first time in its existence. For example, the G500 no longer has a 422 hp 4.0 V8, but a 449 hp powerful 3.0 inline six with turbo and compressor. The six-cylinder engine is supported by mild-hybrid hardware that temporarily adds another 20 hp and 200 Nm. Dieseling was previously possible with the 330 hp G400d, but it is being replaced by the mild-hybrid G450d, complete with 367 hp and 750 Nm strong six-cylinder engine. It also benefits from 20 hp and 200 Nm of mild-hybrid support. The absolute top version is the Mercedes-AMG G 63. This now also mild-hybrid extremist produces 585 hp and 850 Nm. That variant also receives support from the 20 hp and 200 Nm powerful mild-hybrid hardware.

The mild-hybrid technology produces lower emissions for each engine version of the G-class, with the result that the Mercedes-Benz G-class is less affected by the Dutch bpm monster. The Mercedes-Benz G-class 450d is available from €194,865. A lot of money, but it is well over €36,000 less than the G400d that it replaces. The G500 is available from €200,681, almost €43,000 less than before. Top version G63, with a new price of €304,709, is more than 11 grand cheaper than before, although it is certainly not a bargain.
