Reset an iPhone 7: this is how you do it in 3 steps

Resetting your iPhone 7 works differently than older iPhones with a home button. In this article, we will explain how you can reset an iPhone 7 very easily.

Resetting iPhone 7 works differently than usual

Apple has made the iPhone 7’s home button different from all previous buttons on the smartphone. To make the device waterproof, the physical button made way for a sensor. With the Taptic Engine, this gives vibrations when your finger touches it, which gives you the feeling that you are pressing a button.

Because this sensor only works if your iPhone also works as it should, you cannot reset it. After all, you only perform this hard reset if your iPhone no longer responds, which means that your home button does not register anything anymore. That’s why Apple added another way to reset iPhone 7. Here’s how to perform a hard reset if your iPhone 7 becomes unresponsive:

  1. Press and hold the lock button and volume down;

  2. Press and hold the two buttons for five seconds, until the screen goes black;

  3. After a few seconds, the Apple logo will appear.

The lock button is the elongated button on the right side of the device. The bottom volume button is on the left side of the device. Remember, you only need to do this hard reset if your iPhone 7 becomes unresponsive. If you just want to turn the device off, holding the lock button for five seconds is sufficient.

The home button makes more things possible than the home button of older models. This way you can choose how hard the device vibrates when you touch the sensor. All kinds of vibrations have also been added, for example when you flip a switch. This is possible due to the improved Taptic Engine.

More about the iPhone 7

Apple has now said goodbye to the home button. You will only find the home button on the newer iPhone SE. Since the release of the iPhone X, swipe the bar at the bottom of your screen up to return to your home screen.
