In principle, the service was free, but this later changed to a paid model. You can think of IFTTT as a hub between the different devices in your home. By linking the devices together, you make new scenarios possible. For example, if you connect a door or motion sensor to IFTTT and switch on a thermostat, you can have a room heated automatically when people are inside.

The makers themselves talk about a no-code platform: you don’t need any programming knowledge to put together the routines. Using drag-and-drop you can connect the different building blocks together and indicate what should happen under specific conditions.
There is still a free version available, but it only allows you two applets to set up. For the real functionality you need the Pro subscription, for which you pay approximately 3 euros per month. You may then make 20 applets. If this is not sufficient, there is the Pro+ subscription, which has no limit. You pay approximately 12.50 euros per month for this.

Are you new to IFTTT? Then try the free version first. For inspiration, visit the makers’ website: there you will see an overview of available applets.
