Samsung offers a series of fast V30 micro-SD cards with high reliability.
We all know the sd (secure digital) memory card that started as a log card of 32 x 24 mm with a small storage capacity and evolved via the mini-sd (20 x 21.5 mm) to micro-sd with a size of 15 x 11 mm. In most cases, an SD adapter is also included. The memory cards are available in various variants, as you can see in the table at the bottom right. The SD card is used in various environments, such as as external memory for a smart phone, as storage of photos and videos in cameras, webcams, actioncams and drones. In addition, the storage capacity has increased by leaps and bounds from 4 MB with the SDSC (Standard Card), 2 GB with the SDHC (High Capacity), 32 GB for the SDXC (Xtreme Capacity) and will reach 2 with the SDUC (Ultra Capacity). TB and more. The SDUC is not yet available, but the standard has already been set. In addition, the speed of the cards has been greatly improved in order to be able to write the image formats sd, fhd, 4K and 8K at 30, 60 and 120 frames per second.
Samsung sent us the most recent 2021 versions of the 512GB V30 SD cards for review. The EVOplus was already available before, the new version is again about 30 percent faster and now has a transfer speed of up to 130 MB/s. The new PROplus takes it one step further with write speeds of up to 120 MB/s and read speeds of up to 160 MB/s.
In addition to speed optimization, the cards have multiple protections against shock, water, extreme temperatures, X-rays (such as airports), wear and tear, drops and magnetic radiation. This increased reliability is worth a lot, because loss of image information is unacceptable. Samsung therefore gives a 10-year warranty on these memory cards!
The EVOplus is available as a micro SD card with 64, 128, 256 and 512 GB, the PROplus with 128, 256 and 512 GB. In addition, they are also available in the standard SD version, with a 32GB version also available. We tested the 512GB micro-SD model of the PROplus and EVOplus in a Sony DSC-RX100M7 camera with U3/V30 storage speed requirements (4K to approx. 100Mbps) and experienced no problems (dropouts) with writing and reading the image information. An ideal match! Each camera manufacturer specifies in its documentation which V-class SD card is required to process the maximum video data stream of the respective camera.
