Rivian is coming to Europe in 2022 with the R1S, founder and CEO RJ Scaringe confirms to this Reuters. In addition to a market introduction in Europe, the start-up also wants to enter the Chinese market and Rivian has plans to introduce smaller models.
To date, Rivian has unveiled two models: the R1T and the R1S. As a fully electric pick-up, the R1T is important for the American market, but there is probably less market for it in Europe. The R1S, a full-size SUV with seven seats, is a lot more interesting to us. That is why this model does make the crossing. CEO Scaringe, however, says that Rivian should mainly rely on smaller models outside of America. It is not yet known exactly what they will look like. These models are expected to share their underlying technology with the R1T and R1S.
The ‘Launch Edition’ of the R1S should roll off the production line in August 2021 and will cost $ 77,500, or € 65,511. Then in January 2022 the ‘Explore’ and ‘Adventure’ will follow, which will probably also come our way. The ‘Explore’ has to yield $ 70,000 (€ 59,171) in America while the ‘Adventure’ costs the same as the ‘Launch Edition’. According to the manufacturer, all variants of the R1S have a battery pack with a promised range of ‘more than 300 miles’ (480 kilometers), are powered by four electric motors and must be able to accelerate from 0-97 km / h in 3 seconds. The R1S must also be able to pull 3,500 kilograms. Rivian does not report definitive specifications yet.
If Rivian can also offer the R1S in Europe for the above price, the SUV does not seem like a bad offer. For example, a BMW iX3 already costs € 67,500 and offers considerably less space. On the other hand, Rivian still has to prove itself.
