No worries for Mercedes-Benz Vans

The American Rivian is putting the establishment of an in-depth cooperation with the commercial vehicle division of Mercedes-Benz on the back burner for the time being.
About three months ago, Rivian announced a close partnership with Mercedes-Benz Vans. The two companies signed an agreement that should ultimately not only lead to jointly developed electric commercial vehicles, but even to a factory in Europe where the EVs will be built. Rivian is now putting the setting up of the joint venture with Mercedes-Benz Vans on the back burner, Reuters reports.
For the time being, Rivian would like to focus entirely on its own existing products and its customers. Mercedes-Benz also confirms that Rivian is not going ahead with the plans for the time being. Mercedes-Benz does not seem to be concerned about this. Mercedes-Benz Vans will continue its plans to produce new electric commercial vehicles on the VAN.EA platform in Jawor, Poland, but this location will not be expanded with a facility where Mercedes and Rivian jointly produce vans for the time being.
Mercedes-Benz Vans will be producing the new electric eSprinter in Düsseldorf from the middle of next year. From around 2025, medium-sized electric commercial vehicles will also be available on the VAN.EA platform from Mercedes’ factory in Vitoria, Spain. The V-class, the Vito and their electric versions are currently also seeing the light of day there.
