Roewe Ei6 is new electric sedan

Roewe, part of the Chinese giant SAIC Motor, has added a new all-electric sedan to its model range: the Ei6.

A quick look back. It is 2016 when the Chinese Roewe presented the i6 (photos 4, 5 and 6), a design-based Vision R Concept-inspired sedan that took over from the Rover 75-based 550. Like that 550, Roewe with a plug-in hybrid of the i6, the Ei6 Plus (photo 7). That plug-in has a 1.5-liter 1.5 that works together with an electric motor that brings the system power to 350 hp and 480 Nm. That Ei6 Plus is now joined by a fully electric brother, a car that is simply called Ei6.

The Ei6 is, like the i6 on which it is based, a sturdy sedan with a length of 4.72 meters with a wheelbase of 2.72 meters. This makes the car slightly shorter than models such as the Volkswagen Passat, Ford Mondeo and Mazda 6. From the outside, the electric Roewe can be recognized by its different front and rear sides from the i6. More interesting is of course what happens under the carriage of the Ei6.

To start with the bad news: Roewe keeps the exact capacity of the lithium-ion battery pack under control. However, the company says that the Ei6 should be able to travel 605 kilometers on a load according to the NEDC cycle. It is also known that the electric motor, which drives the front wheels, delivers 184 hp and 258 Nm. The Ei6 is expected to make its public debut at the Beijing Auto Show in April, but with the postponement of that car fair until further notice, the car – including all official information – will be presented at a later date.
