Rolls-Royce must remove illuminated ‘Spirit of Ecstacy’

Europeans diving into the Rolls-Royce configurator to put together their perfect Rolls will miss one option. That of the enlightened ‘Spirit of Ecstacy’ on the nose. European rules put an end to it.

It is of course not really earth-shattering news, but it will undoubtedly lead to some disappointed faces. New rules of the European Union herald the end of the enlightened ornament. That reports The Daily Mail. It would have to do with rules about light pollution. Apparently they no longer offer space for such non-useful lighting on a car. Of course it is also a bit of a gimmick, but a considerable part of the Rolls-Royce buyers seems to choose it.

The rules also affect already delivered Rolls-Royces. That means that owners who already have an enlightened Spirit of Ecstasy will have to have it adjusted. Rolls-Royce claims The Daily Mail know that they will be notified and given multiple options. In any case, the illuminated ornament will be replaced by a chrome one, but you can then choose to get the money back or to tick a new option. The illuminated Spirit of Ecstacy costs almost € 4,000, so there will probably be something else nice in its place.
