A well-known insider claims that Apple will release the iPad 2022 next fall with the current design, an A14 chip and 5G. It would be the last model with the existing design. Next year, the entry-level tablet will finally be overhauled.
‘iPad 2022 keeps the current design’
It seems that Apple will recycle the design of its cheapest tablet for another year. twitterer Dylandkt, which has a good reputation when it comes to rumours, claims the iPad 2022 will keep the current design. However, the new version would get a faster A14 chip, Bluetooth 5.0 and Wifi 6. In addition, the model with SIM card has support for 5G.
If you are tired of the old-fashioned design with the large bezels and the physical home button, you will have to be patient for another year. According to Dylan, Apple is working on a new design for the basic tablet. We will see that in 2023.
The ‘regular’ iPad is the last model with the classic design. Who knows, the starter will follow the current iPad Air next year. It has symmetrical screen edges and Touch ID in the on-off button on top. The cheapest tablet may have a smaller 10.2 inch screen. The stereo speakers of the iPad Air could also be missing.
We expect these iPads in 2022
In addition to the iPad 2022, we expect at least three other tablets from Apple this year. The new iPad Air 2022 will probably be in stores next spring. It will probably get the A15 chip that is also in the current iPad mini. The mini itself was updated last fall, so it probably won’t get an update in 2022.
We do think that Apple will launch two new iPad Pro models. It is again an 11-inch tablet and a larger 12.9-inch version. Both models would have a mini LED screen this time. In addition, they run on a faster M2 chip. The iPad Pro 2022 may also be able to charge wirelessly. It is not yet clear when Apple will present them. That may not happen until October.
