A new version of the iPad mini will be released at the end of this year. Just don’t focus on the name, because the iPad mini of 2021 will be less mini than predecessors.
‘iPad mini 2021 gets bigger screen’
That claims Ross Young, who works for market researcher Display Supply Chain Consultants. Young regularly predicts accurate information about unannounced Apple products.
According to the consultant, the iPad mini from 2021 will have an 8.3-inch display. That’s a small jump from the 2019 iPad mini, which has a 7.9-inch screen.
The housing would not change: it will remain the same size. That is possible because, according to Young, Apple is removing the physical home button. As a result, the screen extends all the way to the bottom of the tablet and the iPad mini can get a larger screen, without the housing growing with it.
Rumors about the new iPad mini
Young is not the first to say that the iPad mini 2021 will have a larger screen than its predecessors. He receives support from ‘colleagues’ such as Ming-Chi Kuo and Bloomberg News, both of which have a reliable track record.
In fact, Bloomberg is so confident that it describes the new iPad mini as “the biggest redesign in the history of the device”. It would include a fresh design, A15 processor (just like the iPhone 13) and a USB-c charging port.
