Rumor: iPhone 14 no longer has a SIM card slot

According to a rumor, the iPhone 14 will not get a physical SIM card slot. Instead, you can use the internet and make calls via esim, a digital SIM card.

‘No SIM card slot in iPhone 14 phones’

That reports MacRumors. The American website received documents from an anonymous tipster.

These documents, which according to MacRumors look official, state that Apple will release iPhones without a physical SIM card slot from September 2022. Instead, customers must use the internet, make calls and send text messages using an electronic SIM card (esim). You activate this digitally.

The documents also state that Apple will start phasing out physical SIM cards from next year. According to MacRumors, the company wants to sell iPhone 13 copies with only esim to US carriers. This will start in the second quarter of 2022. It is not known whether Apple also cooperates with Dutch providers in this area.

Have the plans accelerated?

Earlier, a rumor came out that Apple wants to stop using physical SIM card slots from the iPhone 15 Pro. This device is expected to be released in September 2023. If MacRumors’ documents are legitimate, it appears that Apple has pushed the plans forward for a year.

We advise you to take the rumors with a grain of salt. It is true that Apple has been working on the transition to esim for years. The iPhone 13, for example, is the manufacturer’s first device that can handle two electronic SIM cards. In this way you can be reached on one phone for both business and private purposes, without the need for a physical SIM card.
