Rush hour A7 has been closed for a week due to damp cameras

A remarkable scene occurs on the A7 towards Hoorn near Purmerend. Due to condensation on the cameras, Rijkswaterstaat cannot keep an eye on the current traffic situation, so that the rush-hour lane remains closed. Rijkswaterstaat told AutoWeek that the problem is not easy to solve.

Rijkswaterstaat reports on Twitter today that the rush-hour lane of the A7 cannot be monitored with the cameras due to moisture problems, so it remains closed. This not only causes a lot of delay on the A7 towards Hoorn near Purmerend, but also on the connecting A8 and A10 from Amsterdam. Remarkably enough, Rijkswaterstaat says that the problem ‘has been going on all week’ and that there is ‘not 1, 2, 3 a solution’.

In a response to AutoWeek, Rijkswaterstaat says that condensation only occurs with certain cameras in specific cases, usually during the evening rush hour. The problem is in the cameras themselves, which means they have to be replaced entirely. This is not immediately possible, because Rijkswaterstaat does not have the cameras in stock. It also poses a problem in the budget, because the planning is actually that the expensive cameras will only be replaced in a few years.

Rijkswaterstaat is currently looking for a solution, but the implementing agency could not yet say how long that will take. Until then, the rush-hour lane must remain closed in the event of condensation. It is a standard procedure for Rijkswaterstaat to carry out a ‘survey’ before opening the rush-hour lane to see whether it can be opened safely.
