There are many new Apple devices coming, but that also means that Apple is discontinuing some products. These devices will disappear soon!
Apple discontinues products
Next month it’s time for another Apple event! We’re going to see a lot of new products, including of course the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max. The Apple Watch Series 10 (or Apple Watch X), Apple Watch SE 2024 and Apple Watch Ultra 3 will also appear. And that’s not all, because Apple is also working on a new iPad and iPad mini.
So expectations are high for next month. Like every year, the introduction of new products also means the end of older devices. Apple often stops producing devices, which means they disappear from stores after a while. Are you planning to buy an older iPhone, Apple Watch or the previous AirPods? Then you may not have to wait much longer. Apple will soon be discontinuing these products!
1. iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max
Apple is expected to stop production of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max next month. The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will be released in September, replacing the iPhone 15 Pro (Max). Since the launch of the iPhone XS and iPhone XR in 2018, Apple has stopped production of previous Pro models when new iPhones are released.
This year is likely to be no different, meaning that new iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models will no longer be manufactured anytime soon. That’s a shame especially for users who prefer smaller displays, as this year’s Pro models will get larger screens. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will likely be the last Pro devices to feature 6.1- and 6.7-inch displays, respectively. Read more about the new dimensions of the iPhone 16 Pro (Max) here.
- iPhone 15 Pro: € 1,017.00
- iPhone 15 Pro Max: € 1,229.00
2. iPhone 14 Plus
Apple is saying goodbye to yet another iPhone with the introduction of the iPhone 16, as the iPhone 14 Plus is being discontinued. The iPhone 14 Plus was Apple’s first ‘normal’ iPhone with a 6.7-inch screen, meaning you no longer needed a Pro for a larger display. With the iPhone 14 Plus, Apple released a Plus model for the first time since 2017, when the iPhone 8 Plus was released that year.
Last year, Apple stopped producing the iPhone 13 mini, while the iPhone 13 is still available. It is expected that Apple will do the same with the iPhone 14 this year, which means that the iPhone 14 Plus will no longer be available from Apple itself. The iPhone 14 will remain available for sale for another year. You can still get the iPhone 14 Plus from other providers as long as stocks last, so be on time.
- iPhone 14 Plus: from € 709,-
3. iPhone 13
In addition to the iPhone 14 Plus, Apple is also discontinuing production of the iPhone 13. The phone was released in 2021 and had a longer battery life, a new camera system and a smaller notch. All of these features have since been improved in the latest iPhones, so Apple is now offering the iPhone 13 for 749 euros. It is the oldest iPhone that you can buy through Apple’s website, but that will soon change.
After the release of the iPhone 16, Apple will likely stop selling the iPhone 13. The iPhone 14 will likely drop to the price of the iPhone 13 now. For the time being, Apple will continue to sell the iPhone 14, at least until the launch of the iPhone SE 4. From next month, the iPhone 14 will be the oldest and cheapest regular iPhone that Apple sells, alongside the iPhone SE 2022.
- iPhone 13: from €589.48
4. Apple Watch Series 9, Ultra 2 and SE 2
In September, Apple will release no less than three new generations of the Apple Watch in addition to the iPhone 16. Next month, we will probably see the Apple Watch Series 10, Apple Watch Ultra 3 and the Apple Watch SE 3. Apple will therefore stop selling older products such as the Apple Watch Series 9, Ultra 2 and SE 2. These smartwatches will be replaced by the newer models.
Changes are mainly expected for the Apple Watch Series 10, for example the device will get a larger display with a thinner casing. The Apple Watch SE will reportedly be made of plastic, to reduce the price of the smartwatch. No major changes are expected for the Apple Watch Ultra 3, the device will at least get the S10 chip. We see the same processor in the Apple Watch Series 10.
- Apple Watch Series 9: from € 359,-
- Apple Watch Ultra 2: from € 809.95
- Apple Watch SE 2022: from € 239.95
5. AirPods 2 and AirPods 3
In 2019, Apple released the AirPods 2, which are still available from the company for 149 euros. This makes the earbuds a budget-friendly option, because the AirPods 3 have been available since 2021. The third generation of the AirPods has features such as spatial audio and better sound quality. It is expected that the AirPods 2 and AirPods 3 are also products that Apple will discontinue next month.
The AirPods 4 are coming soon, with two versions being released. The AirPods 4 will be Apple’s first regular earbuds with noise cancellation, a feature that has so far only been available on the Pro models. The most expensive version of the AirPods 4 will get noise cancellation and will replace the AirPods 3. The cheaper version of the AirPods 4 will not have noise cancellation, making the earbuds a lot cheaper. Apple will therefore stop production of the AirPods 2 and 3 next month.
- AirPods 3: from € 174.95
6. iPad mini 6 and iPad 10
Apple already released a new iPad Air and iPad Pro in 2024, but two new generations of the tablet will follow soon. The iPad and iPad mini will get an update this fall. The latter in particular is due for replacement, as the last iPad mini was released in 2021. Apple will likely equip both new products with a more powerful chip, so that this year’s iPads will support Apple Intelligence.
Other changes to the 2024 iPads include support for the Apple Pencil Pro and improved displays. The fact that we’re finally going to see the iPad mini 7 and the iPad 2024 means the end of a number of older iPads. Apple is removing the iPad mini 6 and the iPad 2022 from sale. You will no longer be able to buy these products from Apple itself, because they will be replaced by the latest iPads.
- iPad 2022: €384.95
- iPad mini 2021: €484.95
Sales subject to stock
Apple will stop selling a total of eleven products in September. It remains to be seen whether we will see the iPad mini 6 and the iPad 10 next month, or whether Apple will only release the tablets in October. As soon as Apple has released the latest iPhones, Apple Watches, AirPods and iPads, production of the older generations will stop. This means that you can no longer buy the devices from Apple itself.
Want to save money by purchasing an iPhone or other device from a few years ago? Then you can often still get the products from other providers, even after Apple has been bought with the production. You have to be quick, because the availability depends on the stock of the device. Curious about what else you can expect from Apple? Then take a look at Apple’s plans for 2024 here!
