The first of the month means fresh sales figures. However, they are by no means festive. Figures from RAI Vereniging, Bovag and RDC show that the Dutch car market seems to be on the way to a low point. Fortunately, EVs make up for a lot.
Last month, 29,434 new passenger cars were registered in the Netherlands, which is 21.9 percent less than in September 2019, when 37,706 new cars were registered. This makes the cumulative state of this bizarre year -24.9 percent. Branch organization Bovag naturally explains this worrying trend with the corona crisis, which is weighing on both consumer confidence and entrepreneurs’ willingness to invest.
The advance of fully electric cars is striking. This puts the Kia Niro at number 1, as more than half of that model is of the emission-free type. In addition, Tesla has pushed another ship full of Model 3s our way, putting that model at 2. Unfortunately just outside the top 10, but nevertheless worth mentioning at 11 is the Volkswagen ID.3, while we only now find the long-term bestsellers from VW Golf and Polo at 17 and 14.
